Even my bed becomes a mountain...

Open on Thu - San

Growing up in a family of aerial photographers Antoinette Nausikaä learned from early age how to observe the world around her and to zoom in and out from it. Driven by a personal need to find balance and stillness within a turbulent and rapidly changing world, Nausikaä explores interconnectedness within our everyday environment.

She works on long-term site specific projects in places where nature and culture coincide. It is the harmony between the two that fascinates her. In her project «Breathing Mountains»(2018) Antoinette investigated the relation between humans and nature at far away sacred mountains. In her latest project «A River Runs Through Me» , she has switched focus from unspoilt nature to the city. The ultimate symbol of human civilization. While cities are generally regarded as separated from nature, Antoinette is keenly aware of the way the two are inextricably intertwined. In this long term project she takes the river that flows through a metropole as her field of operations.

This time, in the exhibition at KIKA gallery, Nausikaä will present a photo installation «Even my bed becomes a mountain...» composed of nine photographic images taken from her «Breathing Mountains» project and ceramic objects that are inspired on her journey around Mount Fuji.
